My data is in the "Common Data" location but the option is greyed out.

Background
When our programs start, they make a test to see if you are an administrator or a limited user. The test consists simply of attempting to open a file in your Windows System folder. If this is permitted, you are an administrator and both data locations are enabled. If it is not permitted, you are a limited user and the "Common Data" location is greyed out.

The Problem
As far as we can make out, a recent update to Windows has disabled administrator privileges during the startup process. They are only applied after all services and startup programs are running. Therefore, when a 101 program is on your start menu and starts at boot up, the administrator test fails and you are left with the "Common Data" location greyed out.

Interim solution
As an interim solution, all you have to do is close the program and restart it from the desktop shortcut. The test will then be repeated and both data location options will be available.
Note
With our programs, clicking the "X" at the top right of the window does not close the program, it merely minimizes it to an icon in the system tray. To close it, right click on the icon and click close.

Permanent solution
The permanent solution is to move your clip library from the "Common Data" location to the "Username's Private Data" location. This is a fairly straightforward operation. However, it has been unnecessarily complicated by the fact that Microsoft have made each users "Application data" folder a hidden folder. To move your data, please follow the steps below.

1. Ensure that you are logged on as an Administrator.

2. Close the 101 program

3. To ensure that you can see the "Application data" folder, open "My Computer" and on the Tools menu, click Folder options.

In Folder Options, click the View tab, ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected and click the "Apply to all folders" button

4. Close the "Folder Options" window and in "My Computer", navigate to

From the edit menu, click "Select All" then "Copy".

5. Now navigate to

From the edit menu, click paste.

When you restart your program, your data will be available in the "Username's Private Data" location.

Notes

1. The navigation stages to the private data folder are shown individually here:

2. The source and destination folders shown in the above graphics are for 101 Clips. For 101 Contacts they are:

Source C:\Program Files\101Contacts\Data
Destination C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Application Data\101 Software\101Contacts_Data
